ABC Boat Hire Nominated for Regional Tourism Award

20th January 2025

Award-nominated services

Nantwich Canal Centre, one of ABC Boat Hire’s northern locations, is a finalist for Self Catering Accommodation of the Year in Marketing Cheshire Tourism Awards 2025.

The awards recognise and applaud those who fuel Cheshire and Warrington’s tourism sector, which attracts more than 50 million visitors yearly and contributes £3.4 billion to the region’s economy.

There has been another record number of entries in its 19th year – this follows a 29% increase in nominations from 2023-2024.

Held at Chester Cathedral for the second consecutive year on Thursday 6 March 2025, the winner will represent Cheshire in VisitEngland’s Awards for Excellence in the summer.

We’re honoured to have been shortlisted and look forward to celebrating with neighbouring projects, attractions and businesses.

Why should you choose a self-catering canal boat holiday with ABC?

Holidays are exciting, explorative but often expensive. Self-catered options loosen your purse strings and bring you the comforts of home with the freedom to explore. Where else can you whip up a full English on water near a WWII bunker?

Journeys can be as short as a few days or longer than a fortnight. A meal out every day adds up. Plus, you don’t want hangry guests as you cruise through the canals.

So, if you’re looking for a romantic getaway for two, spoil your spouse with a candle-lit dinner on the stretch of the home of gingerbread. Or make packed lunches en-route to a heritage ride on a steam train. There’s a lot of freedom with what you can take on a canal boat holiday

Self-catered services offer so much value for money, flexibility and independence. You can stick your feet up, appreciate the foliage and indulge yourself with a full fridge.

But feel free to balance out the best of both. In one breath you can pick croissant flakes from your jumper, and the next, you’re dining out at village restaurants like Barbridge Inn.

Is there really space to cook on a canal boat?

Absolutely. Whether you fancy a quiet trip with your partner, you’ve rallied a group of friends, or you’re with extended family, there’s plenty of room for everyone. Your pets are also welcome onboard.

Food facilities on ABC boats

You don’t have to cram a few water bottles and sandwiches in a mini fridge on ABC boats. Instead, enjoy a fully equipped kitchen area prepared for everything you’ll need for your journey across the water.

The galley features either a 3 or 4-burner gas cooker with grill and oven, fridge, sink with drainer, ample work surfaces and storage space.

Also for your convenience is a microwave, toaster, cafetiere, saucepans, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery.

Routes to explore Cheshire and surrounding areas
