We are pleased to have launched our first electric hire boat on the Wiltshire canal!
Combining new technology and the comforting interior our customers know and love, The Great Day boat is our proudest achievement yet.
This up to 10 berth boat comes fully equipped with a small kitchen and toilet in both a covered and open cabin. Though electric, it’s still strong and mighty. Capable of travelling long distances on a fully charged and well-maintained battery, without the noisy diesel engine. Making it kinder to the environment, wildlife and surrounding homes thanks to its peaceful voyage that also helps to reduce noise pollution.
This latest technology was developed with the help of marine propulsion experts, Beta Marine, to overcome the challenges of powering a boat moving through water.
Thanks to advanced battery technology, the issue of vibrations from a traditional diesel engine is no longer an issue.
Our marketing manager, Hayley Hadley, had this to say:
“…the lack of the vibration and thud of the traditional diesel engine makes a huge difference. It's lovely just being able to hear the noise of the water and the birds. It's so peaceful."
The electric system used in ‘The Great Day Boat’ is designed to power not only the boat’s motor, but the electricity used throughout the cabin and kitchen.
Our boat uses an electrical power system and batteries, rather than a traditional diesel engine. The battery in question is the Victron Energy Multiplus 48/5000/70-100 Inverter Battery Charger, and as the name suggests, is a combined inverter and charger in one smart package.
The key benefits of this inverter battery charger includes a unique power assistant feature, remote monitoring and control as well as virtually unlimited power due to its parallel operation.
With the launch of The Great Day Boat, we now have an impressive four electric boats in our 200-boat fleet!
You can find our latest edition at Hilperton Marina in Trowbridge, ready to be booked for your peaceful excursion along the waterways.
