Earlier this month travel bloggers Gone With The Wynns embarked on their latest adventure as they explored Llangollen via canal from Blackwater Meadow Marina. In this blog, we’ll introduce you to the couple and their guide, David from Cruising the Cut and if you want to follow in their footsteps, we’ll share everything you need to know about their route.
Gone with the Wynns consist of Jason and Nikki Wynn - a pair of travel bloggers that specialise in living and travelling off-grid. On their usual day-to-day, they live on a sailboat named Curiosity. In their latest vlog, they make the switch from Catamaran to narrow boat.
The Wynns chose the Llangollen and return from Blackwater Meadow Marina after recommendation from David. He recommended this route as it’s famously one of the most picturesque canal routes in the whole of the UK. Not only is this route known for its scenic views but also for the UNESCO listed Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the highest and longest canal aqueduct in the world at 1007ft long and 127ft high. Blackwater Meadow Marina is situated just outside the sleepy town of Ellesmere in Shropshire and is the ideal base to start at to explore the Llangollen Canal. If you have time to explore before your boat trip starts it’s worth a visit to the Mere, the largest natural lake in the country and is a great opportunity to spot the local wildlife and enjoy the local lakeside eateries.

Although the Wynn’s are more used to boats of a bigger size, they called the Alvechurch Swift home for the duration of their trip. As one of the smaller boats in our fleet, the Swift can sleep up to four people making it the perfect choice for couples or small families.
When exploring the boat the Wynn’s were particularly impressed with the ample storage available on the boat along with a sizeable shower and added extras like waterproofs for manning the boat in all weather conditions.
Apart from food, the boat has everything you need to enjoy your trip along the canal.
